Consequently, the Standard Programme listed below serves merely as an initial guideline or template. Scarification

Scarification rids your lawn of thatch and moss, ensuring better growth and nutrient uptake. This mechanical raking revitalises turf by enhancing air, water, and nutrient access. Depending on grass variety and moss propensity, we advise annual or bi-annual sessions for a consistently vibrant lawn.

Superior Lawn Treatments

The Individual Treatments that combine to create a beautiful lawn, are detailed below. In Step One, we focus on feeding your lawn with Seasonal Fertilisation, ensuring your lawn and its nutritional needs are fully met throughout the year. Step Two focuses on the Specialist Treatments that really elevate your lawn to superior levels. Whilst we always recommend harnessing their full power by purchasing our treatments as part of an Annual Programme, we can supply them individually, leaving you to manage the rest.

STEP ONE:  Seasonal Fertilisers

Throughout the year, each season presents unique challenges for your lawn, ranging from scorching summer heat to harsh winter frost. To address these challenges effectively, our lawn care programme includes seasonal lawn fertilisers that are designed with precise nutrients timed perfectly for each season. By taking this strategic approach, you not only strengthen your lawn’s resilience to various stresses but also encourage lush, vibrant growth and a healthier root system. Therefore, our carefully curated selection of seasonal fertilisers ensures a balanced nutrient intake for your lawn. As a result, you’ll enjoy a robust, green, and lively turf that’s the envy of the neighbourhood, no matter the time of year. In this way, we continually ensure “the grass is greener on YOUR side of the fence.”

A Vital Boost for Emerging Lawns

Spring marks a time of renewal and rejuvenation, and this holds true for your lawn as well. After the long winter dormancy, grass roots spring into action, seeking nutrients to support new growth. Our spring fertiliser plays a pivotal role during this period by delivering essential nutrients, such as nitrogen for vibrant green growth, phosphorus for strong root development, and potassium for overall health. This timely nutritional boost not only ensures a rapid green-up of your lawn but also fortifies it against diseases and pests. Moreover, a well-fed lawn in spring is better equipped to handle summer stresses, such as drought and heavy foot traffic. By using our spring fertiliser, you're setting the foundation for a lush, resilient, and healthy lawn for the entire year.

Strength and Resilience for Hotter Months

During the sweltering summer days, your lawn faces numerous challenges, from blistering heat to extended dry spells. Our summer fertiliser is specially designed to tackle these adversities. Rich in essential nutrients, it not only bolsters your lawn's ability to retain moisture, ensuring its vibrant hue, but also enhances its natural defenses against pests, diseases, and the rigours of increased outdoor activities. Importantly, our formulation guarantees that it won't scorch your lawn. This means we can apply it confidently even during periods of drought, without the immediate need to water it in. Although no fertiliser can prevent a lawn from going brown during drought if water isn't available, our meticulously crafted blend of fertiliser will patiently wait, activating and nourishing your lawn once the refreshing rains return, ensuring your turf remains a verdant retreat throughout the hottest days of the year.

Preparing Your Lawn for Winter's Embrace

As the vibrant hues of summer transition into the mellow tones of autumn, your lawn enters a critical phase of preparation for the upcoming cold months. Our autumn fertiliser is crucial during this period, serving as a nutritional powerhouse tailored to the season's unique demands whilst helping to keep any damage from red thread to a minimum. Our special blend provides essential nutrients to strengthen the grass's root system, enabling it to store more energy for winter. Moreover, it aids in repairing any wear from the summer and fortifies the lawn against frost and diseases. By applying a autumn fertiliser, you not only ensure a healthier and more resilient turf during winter but also set the stage for a quicker, more vibrant green-up come spring.

Sustaining Your Lawn Through the Chill

When winter's cold embrace descends, many might believe that lawn care takes a backseat. However, beneath the frosty surface, your grass continues its life cycle, albeit at a slower pace. A winter fertiliser plays an instrumental role in supporting this subdued growth. Tailored with a unique blend of nutrients, it focuses on reinforcing the lawn's root system, ensuring the grass remains robust and ready to spring back into action once warmer days return. Additionally, our fertiliser aids in building resistance against harsh winter conditions, including frost, snow, and diseases that may thrive in the cold. By feeding your lawn with our winter blend, you're providing it with the sustenance needed to weather the toughest season, ensuring a strong foundation for a flourishing spring comeback.

STEP TWO:  Specialist Treatments

While lawn fertilisers lay the foundational nutrition for your turf, achieving an immaculate and resilient lawn requires a broader spectrum of care. Our specialist lawn treatments step in to fill this role, offering targeted solutions that address specific challenges and optimise lawn health. These advanced treatments go beyond basic nourishment, focusing on improving soil structure, combating pests, diseases, and weeds, and enhancing water retention. By seamlessly integrating these specialist treatments into your lawn care regimen, alongside fertilisers, you ensure a holistic approach that results in a lawn that’s not just green and lush, but also robust, balanced, and equipped to withstand the rigours of every season. Dive in to discover how these treatments elevate the art of your lawn care.

General Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be tied into a contract?

Never. We want you to stay with us because we give great service and outstanding results, not because you’re tied into a contract.

The only thing to be aware of is if you’re on our Monthly Payment Plan and you cancel mid-year, there may be a balance to pay on your account. If there is any difference between the payments received and the total value of services provided at cancellation, you will be invoiced or credited for the difference.

For more information, check out our Terms and Conditions.

Are your products safe for pets & children?

Yes. We have carefully chosen formulations that are safe for both children and pets to walk on after treatment. However, please be aware that no lawn care product is safe for ingestion, so care must be given to ensure pets do not eat the granules or grass until at least the lawn has been fully watered in (by rain or by you) and fully absorbed.

Important side note:

Although our liquid iron treatments are safe to walk on after application, iron can cause staining to hard surfaces such as paving and decking, so it is advisable to stay off the lawn for 24-48 hours after application to avoid the small risk of accidental transfer.

Do I need to water my lawn after treatment?

Although we make every effort to time your treatment just before rain, this isn’t always possible, and so with the exception of our Drought-Safe Summer Fertiliser, if rain hasn’t fallen within 48 hours of your treatment, it is CRUCIAL that you generously water your lawn in order to ensure that the granules dissolve & you receive the full effect of your treatment.

Can I mow my lawn before / after treatment?

For optimum effectiveness, please do not mow your lawn for at least 4 days after application of any fertiliser treatment. This is to ensure the treatment is fully absorbed rather than being swept up by a lawn mower.

Why do you use granular fertilisers instead of liquid?

It’s true that many franchised lawn care companies favour liquid fertilisers for their convenience, but as we are entirely independent, without the ties of a franchise or obliged to use a pre-determined set of generic fertilisers, it means we can choose the very best fertilisers on the market. And after extensive research, we happen to believe that granular fertilisers provide far superior results.

Put simply, liquid fertilisers just don’t get into the soil and roots as effectively as granular fertilisers and are often much shorter-acting and so in seeking to provide the very best results for our customers, we have decided to use exclusively granular fertilisers.

Of course, it does mean they have to be watered in, but in planning the application of your fertiliser, we always do our best to time our visit to coincide with a predictable dose of good old English rain.

Are you part of a franchise?

No. We are fully independent RHS trained gardeners with a real passion for horticulture and without the ties of a franchise.

We established Johnson Gardening Services Ltd a number of years ago now and whilst we continue to enjoy maintaining beautiful gardens and grounds, our passion doesn’t end there. Grass is as much of a living, breathing plant as your shrubs and so we launched Johnson Lawn Care to utilise our expert horticultural knowledge with the latest scientific evidence in agronomy and turf care, so we can ensure your lawn thrives to reach its fullest potential.

Can I just get a one-off treatment?

Absolutely. Whilst we always recommend a programme of lawn care treatments in order to ensure the perfect balance of nutrients throughout the year, all of our treatments are available to purchase individually. Feel free to give us a call on 01793 625876 to discuss, or book in for a quote here.

Do I have to be home for you to treat my lawn?

No. We will always be in touch a few days before your planned treatment and so as long as you can leave a gate unlocked, we can treat your lawn without the need for you to be home. Once complete, we will leave your property secure as we found it and leave a card to say we’ve been and what treatment has been carried out.

My garden is accessed through my house. Can you still provide lawn care services?

I’m afraid not. Our commercial equipment is often large and bulky and although we keep everything well maintained, it will always have a certain amount of soil or dirt on. For insurance reasons, given the risk of leaving marks or causing damage to the interior of your property, it means we can’t go through a house to access a garden. It must always have independent outdoor access.

Are your treatments better than other providers?

It’s not really for us to say, however, customers who have experience of some of the other mainstream franchised lawn care companies, have shared with us that since moving to us, they’ve seen a significant improvement to the health, vigour, colour, density and quality of their lawn. We really have gone all-out to source the most superior of fertilisers, not normally available to the domestic market, and it really shows. For more information on our fertilisers and their technologically advanced features, see here.

I've had a cheaper quote elsewhere. Can you match it?

In a word, YES!

The truth is, we really believe our programme of fertilisers and lawn care treatments are far superior to those normally experienced in the domestic market. Our customers tell us so! And as a small family business, our local reputation really matters to us.

“We’re not looking to be the biggest. We just want to be the BEST!”

And so, although we believe we already provide a superior product and service to that you’ll find elsewhere, we want you to have peace of mind that you’re getting the very best value for money and so if you find a comparable treatment for less with another lawn care provider, we will match their quote.

When is the best time to start Lawn Care?

Right now! Put it like this, there isn’t a bad time to start caring for your lawn and whatever the time of year, your lawn is going to benefit enormously from the expert balance of nutrients and care it will receive from our treatments.

For more information, and to arrange a free, no obligation quote, please book your quote here.

When can I expect to see a difference in my lawn?

It won’t take long at all. Depending on the features of the individual treatment, you’ll start to notice a difference within a couple of weeks. Weeds will start to wither and die and your grass will begin to develop a denser, greener, healthier glow.

I think my lawn is suffering from disease. Can you help?

Absolutely! One of the great benefits in choosing us for your lawn care is the fact that we are, first and foremost, RHS trained gardeners. We have a true passion for horticulture and the science of lawn care and so are able to use our extensive knowledge and experience to diagnose and treat issues and disease.  Contact Us for more information.

Spring Weed & Feed Fertiliser

An economical choice that offers dual-action care. While it supplies basic nutrients to stimulate growth and vitality, it also combats invasive weeds that can otherwise mar the beauty of your green expanse. While it may not boast the high-end components of our premium range, this fertiliser provides a balanced approach for those seeking an affordable lawn care option. By choosing our weed & feed, you're giving your lawn a decent start for the season ahead, paving the way for a reasonably healthy and neat garden.

Aeration

Soil compaction can inhibit your lawn's access to vital air, water, and nutrients. Lawn aeration, which punctures the soil with small holes, alleviates this issue. This process improves water absorption, fosters deeper root growth, and enhances nutrient uptake. By regularly aerating, you ensure a healthier, more resilient lawn, allowing it to breathe and flourish. We offer both hollow tine and solid tine aeration and can include the removal of cores from the surface of the lawn, if desired.

Wetting Agents

Wetting agents play a pivotal role in lawn care, ensuring that water penetrates evenly and deeply into the soil, combatting dry spots and enhancing moisture retention. By improving water efficiency, wetting agents reduce surface run-off and evaporation, ensuring your lawn remains hydrated and resilient, especially during drier periods. Incorporating wetting agents into your lawn care routine promises a consistently lush, vibrant, and well-nourished turf. For optimum results, two treatments 90 days apart may be applied.

Biostimulants

Biostimulants are transformative additions to lawn care, acting as nature's own boosters to supercharge the vitality and resilience of your turf. Unlike traditional fertilisers, which deliver direct nutrients, biostimulants amplify your lawn's ability to absorb these essentials, fostering robust root development and improving resistance to various stressors. Among our offerings, Onyx stands out for its nutrient-rich organic formula that encourages root depth and overall lawn fortitude. In contrast, Seaweed Extract focuses on stimulating growth, enhancing soil health, and optimising nutrient uptake. By harnessing the power of either Onyx or Seaweed Extract, you're treating your lawn to an eco-friendly rejuvenation, ensuring a radiant and hearty green space.

Overseeding

Overseeding is the gardener's answer to a revitalised lawn. By introducing fresh grass seed into existing turf, overseeding thickens sparse areas, improving both the density and appearance of the lawn. The process also introduces newer, more resilient grass varieties which can outcompete weeds and better withstand pests, drought, or foot traffic. The result is a lush, vibrant, and hardy lawn that not only looks more attractive but is also healthier and more robust in the face of challenges.

Topdressing

Topdressing is the art of applying a thin layer of soil mixture over your lawn, and it's a game-changer for turf health. This simple yet effective technique improves soil quality, levels out uneven surfaces, and encourages deeper root growth. It aids in moisture retention, ensuring your grass gets the hydration it needs while providing essential nutrients. The outcome? A smoother, more resilient lawn primed for lush growth and optimal health.

Scarification

Thatch and moss can accumulate on your lawn, hindering growth and nutrient absorption. Lawn scarification is a process of mechanically raking and removing this layer and is essential for maintaining turf health. By periodically scarifying, we not only clear away thatch but also combat moss, paving the way for improved water, air, and nutrient penetration, rejuvenating your lawn and fostering a vibrant, healthy green. Depending on the variety of your grass and your lawns' propensity for moss, we usually recommend scarification be carried out annually or bi-annually.

Herbicide Treatment

Weeds are usually both unwelcome and unsightly, but they can also compromise the health of your lawn as they compete for vital nutrients and space. Our professional, licensed herbicide treatments offer targeted weed eradication, allowing for precise application without affecting the surrounding grass. As with all lawn weed killers, they can only target existing actively growing weeds and can't prevent new ones from growing. Additional treatments may, therefore, be required / desired.

Liquid Iron Moss Treatment

Liquid iron is a vital component in lawn care, known for its rapid green-up effect on grass. When applied to the lawn, it provides an instant boost of iron, essential for chlorophyll production, which gives grass its green hue. The result? A deeper, richer green lawn that looks lush and vibrant. But the benefits don't stop at aesthetics. Liquid iron also serves as an effective moss killer, targeting and blackening moss within hours of application. So, not only does it invigorate your lawn with a rich green hue, but it also helps maintain a moss-free, healthy turf, ensuring your lawn remains both beautiful and robust.
